Tony Trenkle is IBM’s Chief Health Information Officer for its Federal business. In that position, he helps shape IBM’s healthcare solutions and software capabilities for the Federal market. Tony joined IBM in 2014 after a long career in the US Federal Government where he held a number of senior leadership positions in several Federal agencies. His last position was the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Director of the Office of Information Services for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) from 2010-2013. As the CMS CIO he oversaw an annual information technology (IT) budget of about $2 billion and managed an organization of over 450 Federal employees and several thousand contractor staff. At CMS, Tony also directed the Office of E-Health Standards and Services from 2005-2010, where he led major national health IT standards, privacy, and security initiatives, including the development of the $30 billion HITECH program.
