SACHIN KAMAL-BAHL, PhD — Vice President at Pfizer and Head-Global Health and Value Innovation Center at Pfizer. The Center develops and integrates innovative approaches (and studied risks) for addressing access, pricing and valuation. Among its strategic efforts: Identifying the strategic implications of environmental issues on valuation and access; developing and testing prototypes for embedding in company internal processes to leverage Pfizer’s demonstrable value and drive market access for its assets; developing and evaluating innovative approaches for access, pricing and valuation opportunities for Pfizer assets, plus spearheading efforts to fully support Pfizer’s approach to access and value internally and externally.
As Executive Director and Global HTA Strategy Head at Merck & Co., he provided strategic guidance to senior leaders on issues related to health technology assessment (HTA) and its evolving landscape and led development of Merck’s positions on key HTA areas. His Merck group helped translate and execute key HTA concepts across all franchises and regions.
Earlier, Dr. Kamal-Bahl was Merck’s Global Access Team Leader for Diabetes and Obesity. In this key strategic role, he led a company-wide global cross-functional team creating an integrated market access strategy (pricing, reimbursement, HEOR, HTA, and payer and stakeholder engagement) to optimize profitability and access – then implemented the strategy for all Diabetes and Obesity products.
In the earlier role of Merck’s Global Strategic Pricing Leader, he was responsible for developing all Diabetes and Obesity product pricing strategies. He led the development of HEOR, market access, and reimbursement strategies for cardiovascular and metabolics products — leveraging the value proposition for cardiovascular, diabetes & obesity products (US Outcomes Research & Management and Global Outcomes Research departments).
Dr. Kamal-Bahl, a clinically trained pharmacist (PhD. Pharmaceutical Health Services Research, University of Maryland-Baltimore) is Adjunct Senior Fellow, Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics (University of Pennsylvania) and Adjunct Assistant Professor, University of Maryland School of Pharmacy.
He is active in key professional organizations and publishes regularly – selected publications: American Journal of Cardiology, Archives of Internal Medicine, Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, Diabetes Care, Health Affairs, Journal of the American Geriatrics Society.
