Kalpesh Upadhye is a patent agent at Northstar IP Law. He holds a Ph.D. in bioengineering from the University of Pittsburgh. His thesis work focused on multi-parametric investigation of mechano-sensitive ion channels by combining single-cell electrophysiology with atomic force microscopy using microfluidic devices.
Prior to joining NSIP, Dr. Upadhye was a patent agent in the Northern Virginia offices of Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, LLP. At Pillsbury, he worked on prior art analysis, patent portfolio analysis, due diligence, patent drafting and prosecution, as well as post-grant proceedings. His areas of focus at Pillsbury included remote patient monitoring systems, drug delivery, biosensors, medical devices, biomaterials, mechanical and electromechanical devices, composites and alloys, semiconductors, thin film devices, and solid state devices.
Before Pillsbury, Dr. Upadhye served as technical specialist and patent agent in the Pittsburgh office of Pepper Hamilton, LLP, where he assisted in several due diligence projects. He also prosecuted numerous patent applications relating to pharmaceutical compositions, neuroscience, nano-scale materials, recyclable materials, meta-materials, electro-optic devices, flexible electronics, and semiconductor fabrication methods, electro-optic devices, microfluidics, and micro- and nano-fabrication.
