Jamie Terbeest, a Defense Contractor and Engineer for over 15 years, has focused his professional career on designing and deploying wireless network infrastructure for the Department of Defense. He graduated with an Electrical Engineering degree from Purdue University in 1999.
Recently, Jamie has enjoyed getting back into woodworking at a local makerspace, a hobby he learned growing up. With the prospect of a baby on the way, Jamie transitioned his home office into a nursery, which precipitated the design of a modern, wooden, wall-mounted, standing desk for his living room in early 2015. After several iterations, Jamie had a functional, manufacturable design and was eager to turn his idea into a business. Upon identification of a local manufacturer and development of a provisional patent, Jamie attempted crowdsourcing in late 2015 and then transitioned his business to an e-commerce platform in early 2016. Jamie’s company called StandCrafted is now a fully operational business, selling standing desks to several customers globally and pursuing gradual growth within his market.
