As the inaugural President and CEO of MCEDC, David Petr has hit the ground running to develop innovative strategies, strengthen partnerships and promote Montgomery County as a great place to do business. He is charged with leading the MCEDC effort to help businesses start, relocate and expand in the county, as well as connect them to top talent and marketing insight. With enthusiasm to spare, he continues to meet with hundreds of businesses, associations and community partners to better understand their priorities to help shape successful strategies. Through collaboration with strong leaders, his vision is to reinvent economic development for Montgomery County.
David joins MCEDC from the Central Florida Development Council, where as President and CEO, he achieved record-setting job creation and capital investment results. His unique talents in organizational transformation and team building in economic development programs align well with the immediate and long-term goals of Montgomery County. Previously, David was the Executive Director of the Winter Haven Economic Development Council in Florida. In Texas, he has held key marketing management positions in economic development and was an advertising agency owner in Austin.
David appreciates Montgomery County for its diversity of places, people and cultures. He loves exploring the many assets of the county — enjoying a play at the Olney Theatre Center, hiking along Bethesda’s Crescent Trail or discovering great Montgomery County parks with his kids. An avid photographer, he is frequently armed with his camera to capture the moment.
A graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a Bachelor’s in Advertising, he went on to pursue a Master’s in Advertising from the University of Texas at Austin. Between universities, David joined an archeological dig in which an amazing Creek Indian Village was discovered, dating back to the 1400s. His current adventure is to find innovative ways to bring partners together to create a stronger collective business impact throughout the region.
