David Gilford leads the Connected Communities practice at Intersection, a technology and design firm formed by Sidewalk Labs and Alphabet to improve life in cities by connecting the physical and digital worlds. David helps real estate developers and cities harness technology to create efficiencies, unlock new sources of revenue, and deliver unique experiences in complex, mixed-use environments.
Prior to Intersection, David held multiple leadership positions with the City of New York, most recently as Vice President for Urban Innovation & Sustainability at the New York City Economic Development Corporation. As a Director of the Center for Economic Transformation, David worked to catalyze entrepreneurship and innovation across New York City, including developing UrbanTech NYC to provide real estate, equipment, and pilot opportunities to fast-growing companies addressing urban challenges.
Earlier in his career, David worked in strategy and finance at General Electric, McKinsey and the Federal Reserve. He has been recognized nationally among the 40 Under 40 Rising Stars in Economic Development, as well as one of New York State’s Top Ten Energy Government Leaders. David holds a BA in Economics from Williams College and an MBA from the Yale School of Management.
