David Cattler was appointed National Intelligence Manager for the Near East in July 2015. In this capacity, he is the Director of National Intelligence’s personal representative and leads intelligence integration, supports national security and intelligence policy, and provides oversight of intelligence community efforts for the Near East region. He has been a leader in several national, joint, and service intelligence assignments. Most recently, he directed the Defense Combating Terrorism Center at the Defense Intelligence Agency. He also has served as the Deputy Director of Intelligence in the Joint Staff, Principal Deputy National Intelligence Officer for Military Issues, and Deputy Assistant Director of Naval Intelligence. He began government service as a surface warfare officer in the US Navy.
He holds a Master of Policy Management degree from Georgetown University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from the United States Naval Academy. He is a graduate of the National Intelligence University and the US Naval War College. He also was a senior fellow with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Seminar XXI, and has completed executive education at Harvard University, Northwestern University, and the University of North Carolina.
