Carolyn J. Chen is the Vice President of Business Development of biotech startup SynAm Vaccine in Rockville, Maryland. SynAm Vaccine’s mission is to eradicate pneumococcal diseases with the world’s first universal vaccine and is in the late pre-clinical development stage focused solely on developing universal vaccines for the prevention of pneumonia and middle ear infections. Ms. Chen is an experienced professional in pharmaceutical and health care consulting, with expertise in business development strategy and marketing. Her career began at Towers Perrin in New York and continued to Pfizer and Doctors Without Borders, building upon her experience in infectious and neglected disease programs. She was a molecular cell biology researcher at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories and a National Cancer Institute Research Fellow at the National Institutes of Health. Ms. Chen holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley and an MBA in Finance and Entrepreneurship from the NYU Stern School of Business.
